Scorpions are a group of arachnids. Distinguished by their lobster like appearance and fleshy tail that terminates in a bulbous sack and stinger. Pincers used to capture prey. scorpions are common throughout Nevada 23 species of scorpions are known to occur in Nevada. Only one Nevada species is considered seriously poisonous, the bark scorpions. They occur throughout Southern Nevada, Clark County and the Las Vegas Valley.
Migration into homes often follow heavy summer rains. Bark scorpions have been caught inside on walls and behind pictures outside Las Vegas houses throughout most of the year they collected by palm trees, outer walls of buildings and concrete block walls. They have a tendency to climb and seek cover in cracks and crevices of houses and under tree bark. As adults, most scorpions are nocturnal and solitary, usually staying in the same territory throughout their lives. Many live in burrows they dig or claim and defend from other wildlife.
The scorpions can produce a painful sting, which most scorpions our not highly as poisonous as the bark scorpions. if stung, you may exhibit a variety of symptoms. Stings are usually immediately painful. The limb or area around the sting may exhibit numbness, weakness, and even paralysis. others symptoms are hyper activity, anxiety profuse salivation, dizziness, respiratory distress, and even convulsion. If a person has been stung by a bark scorpion a physician should be contacted immediately.
Scorpions live 2 to 5 years they do not lay eggs the female bear live young 7 to 12 months after mating a female may produce 14 to as many as 100 young and are carried on her back until they have molted. After the molting immature scorpions leave the mother and mature in a year. scorpions are nocturnal at night they defend their territory, feed, and mate.
Scorpions have poor eyesight they do not stock their prey they lay and wait and ambush, insect, spiders, millipedes, and other scorpions.
